I am amazed by Grammy supporter's comments regarding Maynard's appointment, and saying its OK with him, because we are not going to be promoted or relegated. If that's the cade why bother appointing anybody, might as well let the players get on with it and save a good deal of money. Hujon64's comment that it is good we have a pretty good line up of level 4 coaches to work with the team is meaningless unless they are experienced enough to coach at county level. Only Maynard has coached at this level and his record last year was abysmal, just 14 batting points from 14 games, you might as well say that passing a driving test makes you a good driver, which it doesn't, it just shows you were OK on the day.
Glamorgan's is a good example of what the problem is with cricket in England and Wales, too many counties have jobs for the boys, giving ex-players who have just retired from playing cricket positions as head coach or specialist batting or bowling coaches, with no experience of how to set up individual practice routines for different players. At present there are at least 10 counties who have recently appointed one or more of these retired ex-players to coaching positions, this can't be good for the game.
I hope I am wrong but it doesn't look good for the coming season.
