Cobb (!), Rossington (fit?), Glover (and Ripley - assistant to Shane Warne) are all otherwise engaged with the Hundred for the time being, so best of luck to the rest. Pleased to see Heldreich playing and making an early impression. Wickets needed from the seamers, having inserted the opposition.

Currently 150-7 chasing 296, so unless there's a heroic fight-back, it looks like we are beginning this competition as dismally as we played the t20. Pleased to see Heldreich playing, not pleased to see Kerrigan left out, after being the best bowler in the practice match v Bedfordshire. Someone on the radio (Wakely, I think) was saying we could afford to leave out Kerrigan because we had Keogh and Zaib, so we already had four spinners!

I am also sick of hearing 'we bat deep', meaning 'most of our tail-enders can slog or scramble a few runs once in a while, when the top order has failed again, and the match is already lost'.

The pressure was on from the time of Glam being allowed to get away from 167-5, with Keogh and (not surprisingly) Zaib not even called upon to bowl. As Parnell, in particular, was proving ineffective, Kerrigan, as the one other experienced specialist spinner available, could well have made the difference.

Our usual mix of batsmen getting in/out and failures was then never likely to challenge a total of probably 45-50 runs too many.

The weather had the final say at Scarborough, but again we saw good early work by the bowlers undone by a lower order recovery from 69-6 to 214-7. 223 could well have proved a challenging target.

Regrettably, we see the 50-over cup competition being devalued as players are seduced by the financial clout and superficial glamour of the Hundred. At least, Test cricket still takes precedence over the impudent new arrival - for now!

Miserable performance so far against a severely weakened Warwickshire side. I can't see us doing much in this competition despite being nearer full strength than most counties.

About as comprehensive as defeats go! Following the confident performance against Derbyshire, the question largely is, which team is going to turn up on the day? Frequently outplayed by inexperienced youngsters with bat and ball, ability, inspiration and sense purpose are clearly in short supply.

At last a really good batting performance in this format. Patient start in difficult conditions, kept wickets in hand and fast scoring cameos at the end. Somerset were perhaps under par, but some positive yet sensible batting made it more difficult for them. Nice to see batsmen moving about in the crease to make the bowlers think and induce mistakes. This is something that seems to have been missing from previous games, except from Taylor. Hopefully we'll see this one out. :nervous:

Finally, a game defining innings, but again have we left it too late?

It was certainly a fitting performance for the David Capel Memorial Day, as it was against Somerset that David reached his maiden first class century, in the company of David Steele, as I recall.
