We seem to be talking at cross purposes. If you are referring to the young players who are not yet quite at the level to be playing 1st team county cricket or have not quite made it in recent years then I am sure they would be happy to play for Wales against the likes of Spain and Germany. But I can assure you that the likes of Lloyd, Carey, Donald, Smith, Bull, Salter, Carlson, Walker have set their sights a lot higher.

I would also suggest you talk to the Scottish players and ask them if they would rather have a county contract than one with Scotland.

My wires are certainly not crossed. There is only Lloyd from the names you mentioned who played regularly in the first team. The names that you mentioned do no longer qualify as youngsters and probably like the home grown talent in Scotland fall way below the standard of county cricketers . As I have mentioned in previous posts county teams are producing internatational players at about twenty years of age. Most of the so called Glammy youngsters will be released and will    play for money in the SWPL.   :drunk:

The Hundred wouldn't be required this year or next if all red ball cricket was like that in today's Father Brown story on BBC1. A thrilling finish with the added edge of wondering which of the team would be bumped off next. There was even a 'man' of the match award predating one day cricket, and hopefully Glamorgan made full use of the overseas star sent their way via the village green. Residential qualifying would have been required back then though and being a doctor he may well have proposed the wearing of helmets, through personal experience, long before they came in.

Some player announcements last week for the Fire. I am not quite sure what Payne's attraction is to the squad. His Econ is 8.33. TvdG's Econ is 7.79 and Smith, who has probably been our best seam bowler in T20 in the last few years has an Econ of 8.32 (from only 25 matches having been costly early on in his career and has pegged that back). Smith is also a very good fielder and a useful batsman in this format.
Surely the Fire need to have at least one player in the side who Glamorgan supporters can relate to. I know Ingram is there but he is hardly a Welsh product. Lloyd must also be an option.

Looks like Smith and Starc won't play and assume Ingram will fill one of those overseas slots as he cannot play as a Kolpak any longer.

David Payne is an outstanding T20 bowler who bowls the powerplay and death overs . You cannot seriously compare TVG or Smith with Payne and favour either on ability or experience. Most crucially, he offers a left arm option which is highly sought after in white ball cricket.

And they have gone with David Lloyd. Congratulations to him. Ingram no longer in the squad having lost his non-overseas status.

That Welsh Fire squad is definitely a batsman or two light and has too many all-rounders... Maynard must have been involved!

Cooke with Birmingham. De Lange not involved.

As far as Fire is concerned, the batsmen are Ollie Pope, Jonny Bairstow , Tom Banton, Ben Duckett, Iain Cockbain, Josh Cobb, David Lloyd with batting all-rounders in Ryan Higgins and Kieron Pollard. Should be enough batsmen. Want at least 4 specialist bowlers in the team and ideally 5. In 10 overs the top 6 batsmen should do the job.

Take off Bairstow and Pope after the first two or three games as they're likely be involved with England, and you're not left with the strongest of batting line ups.

Quantity is there but as you say, may come up a bit short. However these are the batsmen they consider to be the best for them. Time will tell.

As far as pace bowlers go they only have Richardson, Ball, Payne and Plunkett so no room for injuries. Two all-rounders does not seem excessive.
