Would love to see us finish 9 wickets down. :)

After batting on after tea I can only surmise that Leach has an unwarranted fear of our batting. :)

As predicted the top 3 is a problem. Feel sympathy for Carlson who has at least had one score batting in the unfamiliar position of 3.
So far this season:
Selman 9, 0, 22, 0
Hemphrey 7, 20, 16, 1
Carlson 7, 4, 79, 2

A couple of starts so the two openers will probably play again on Saturday in the absence of alternatives. However how are they going to see Brown or Cooke this season?

Selman and Hemphrey are cricketing imposters, and should be put on a very slow boat to ... well, anywhere really.

Surely there are a couple of young guns who can be given an opportunity.

Carlson not a No.3, so escapes too much criticism.

Phew - a drawer after tense times. Thank goodness for Cooke who has carried out the role of Captain brilliantly with his 3 hours at the crease and 9 wickets - very well done to him. Also, Cullen who batted for almost an hour to justify his selection and Wagg (again) who stayed there for 45 mins. Top order dismal again - how we miss Labuschagne and Lloyd. Any suggestions for alternative openers?

Lot of people praising Cooke. Are these the same people who blame his return to the team after injury last season for subsequent poor performances? :) :) :) :)

Not exactly a result or performance to feel too proud of, but I guess there are some positives looking forward to next season.

Root and Cooke have proved again that they are among our better players and if we have Labuschagne and Lloyd available next season, that wouldn't be too bad a middle order.

Hemphrey has 3 games to try to secure a contract for next season which seems unlikely right now. He hasn't exactly impressed either with the bat or in the field. As some other counties may have smaller squads next season, hopefully an opener will be released by a Division One team who could do a job for us.

The experiment of playing only 2 frontline seamers failed completely and should indicate to the coach and captain that it ought never to be tried again.

The bowling selections have been odd. Neither Douthwaite or Wagg should be bowling first change. If Lloyd was available neither should play as a bowler. Wagg could bat 7 and bowl some overs and then we need four specialist bowlers. Bull seams to be getting a bit of rhythm - needs better consistency. Then need 2 from Hogan, De Lange and TvdG plus one of the youngsters. Carey must be injured or off form.
We desperately need another batsman who can play in the top 3. Worcs picked up Libby despite being at the lower end of Div 2 last year. Carlson is not that person and is unfair on him to keep him there. Brown and Cooke are the other two options and I wonder if we might see one of them in the next game? Both will need new contracts and Brown has been around for a while. Selman is with us next year. We don't want too weak an XI but the result is not terribly important this year.
Am not sure why they don't appear to have organised any 2nd team friendlies. Guess might not be allowed to but surely could play one day games.

"The declaration was spot-on, anything over that number of overs in the field would have been really hard work and we felt it would be hard for Glamorgan with a defensive mind-set, we needed to keep fielders round the bat. We were wary that there's been some high run chases on that exact wicket."

Perhaps not our business, and always easy to criticise from behind these keyboards but that is a load of rubbish. Three wickets short when the batting side is over 200 adrift is poor and may well cost Worcs a chance of qualifying.

Indeed.

While they may have been wary about the wicket, they also should have been aware of how weak our batting line-up is.

It’s rather worrying the state of our opening batsmen
Selman although a good fielder, is very hit and miss with his batting
The spine of any cricket team starts with a good pair of openers
Carlson needs to bat lower down the order
It comes to something when a 38 year old has to hold the side together as Wagg did
Wagg should only be used now for the white ball cricket
However Douthwaite who should be the main all rounder in the team doesn’t seem to possess enough talent to progress in that position
Unfortunately without Marnus we look a very poor side which badly needs some strengthening
The only real high spot for me was the great display of batting and wicket keeping by our skipper Cooke
What class player he turned out to be
He has always looked the part especially on the one dayers but he has proved himself to be even better in red ball cricket
A real shining light on a poor season so far
