Congratulations to Sir Curtly Ambrose !

No mention, though, of Mike Hussey. Although he was with us for only three seasons, he more than made his mark during his tenure... three triple tons and a few more, at least!

Three of these were in the first match I ever attended!

There's an Andrew Radd book, 'Northamptonshire CCC 100 Greats'. In it he highlights his choice of the county's top 20 players, and the only overseas ones are Mushtaq and George Tribe.

Tribe played 233 matches, scored 8,141 runs with 6 centuries and 39 fifties, and took 1,021 wickets at 20.25.

Ambrose played 78 first class matches, 1,100 runs with 2 fifties and 318 wickets at 20.6. He took a further 115 limited overs wickets.

Besides which (and I know he was England-qualified for three-quarters of his career) but for me there's no doubt that Allan Lamb was far and away the county's greatest ever overseas signing.

Good to see some life in the forum in this unimaginably blank season!

Certainly, in terms of pure class and longevity, I agree that Allan Lamb has no rivals in this particular category.

Perhaps, in the context of the poll and with the passage of time, he is primarily remembered as an England player after his brief initial period as an overseas signing. Accordingly, I tended not to consider him as such.

The one good thing about this terrible season is that for the first time we will spend two consecutive years in division one!
