Levi replaces Wakely, and Coles replaces Zaib. Shame for Zaib who performed well last time.

Congrats to the team on another good day and great to see Bavuma get his first century.

At least we are competitive now and have gone toe to toe with Lancs and there's a chance of victory tomorrow if the weather plays ball.

We have seen a much improved Keogh, in particular, in this match (batting and bowling), but oh for a Harmer-type now... keep plugging away, fellas!

No victory but we were very competitive for the 4 days and it is very noticeable how much more enthusiasm there is in the field. Also Coles adds a bit of bite which we have been lacking.
We are not far off that 3rd position despite what appears to have been a poor season.

Like others, the improvement in the last couple of games has been very welcome. Sanderson and Hutton are good bowlers and wicket takers - almost 50 between them this season. One of the big failures of this season has been the failure to plan an recruit bowlers to support them and cope with injuries etc. Buck remains expensive but a good wicket taker at times and useful bat down the order. But we should never have been in the position of having to loan in so many bowlers on a short term basis.

Not sure if it is a coincidence that the recent upturn in performance has happened under a new Captain. Maybe it is just that boost most teams get in sport, often short term, from replacing leaders. We shall see. Also Wakely not being in the team - his batting has remained poor all season - averaging below 30.

Batting wise, Vasconcelos has been a class act all season - best batting performance for quite a while - might actually get 1000 runs! But Newton remains inconsistent, often flattering to decieve, and Levi is not someone I want to see in the four day side. I do wish we would stick with Curran or Zaib in the 4 day side to try and really develop a young batter for the future. Keogh has done ok - but is not a good enough spinner and doesn;t get enough consistent runs. More to be done. Bavuma really struggled but more recently has shown signs of coming to terms with the game. But the batting still needs to improve overall.

The key things is - can we build on this? A couple of games performing better is a good start but must be continued. We are still 6th in the seocnd division, after a poor one day campaign. With the T20 and the res tof the champ to come - there is still time to end this season on a much more positive note.

Continuing batting on the final morning effectively put more pressure on the attack to make early inroads, which was always unlikely happen on this pitch.

In the context of the result, the largely unexpected decline of the Lancs first innings was a welcome bonus and at least helped to set up the promise of an absorbing last day.
