Dare I say it, our skipper is progressing nicely (in company with Crook) and holding the innings together! We need to ensure the 77 runs added by Derbys last two wickets don't prove too great a setback to the cause.

Again, we fail to reach 300 for the extra batting point (despite being 260-6).

Prasanna got 14 including two sixes, then "perished trying to hit Critchley out of the ground" (Cricinfo). Apparently he bowed to the crowd as he went off.

No amount of team-talks seems to get it across to the team that there is a bonus points system which counts towards promotion.

Afraid not... we now really miss that consistent lower middle/late order that rescued many failing innings during the Hall/Middlebrook period!

This game was delicately poised at the start of play, but we have well and truly missed the boat now.

By not losing wickets late on the third day, we have given ourselves a realistic chance, provided Wakely and Levi can play themselves in again this morning... as did Madsen yesterday. Still can't help thinking about those 77 runs for the last two Derbys first innings wickets!

Too much to hope that Northants could avoid losing six wickets before lunch. As soon as Wakely was out, you knew they had no chance. Another bad defeat.

To all intents and purposes, the season is now over before the end of July.

It would seem the batting coach is having no impact whatsoever. Our lower order might as well not bat. And the bowling is pretty much Sanderson plus 'perm any four from six'.

Things might have been different with Newton, Gleeson and Rossington, but this current team looks as hopeless (in the true literal meaning of the word) as any Northants team since Capel went. All competitions - 4 wins, 1 tie, 15 defeats. So losing 75% of all matches.

Dramatic change needed.

Yes, no backup to Sanderson means that the opposition lower order inevitably score heavily and the days of our lower order getting us in good positions (1st innings) and over the line (2nd innings) are well gone.

Yep, as I feared, those 77 runs were, ultimately, the difference... will they ever learn?

A part-ish-time leggie creates the panic this time... though good luck to him! Maybe a helpful pitch. It was Mr Critchley, with the bat, who was largely instrumental in our downfall a season or two ago.

Very disappointing once again, but I must at least congratulate Wakely on showing some form recently and leading from the front as well as Sanderson for his consistency with the ball in CC cricket.

In general though the pattern seems to be that we can't bowl in one day cricket and we can't bat in the CC, or at least not anywhere near deeply enough, hence having virtually nothing to play for so early in the season.

A challenge for any stattos out there. Has anyone batting at 8 or lower got a CC half century for us this season?

That's asking a bit much - the ones batting at 7 or above struggle to get them!

The trouble is, we got somewhat spoilt during the period when it occurred on a regular basis!

Glos got a late win against Durham, which means we slip to last but one in the table, only Glamorgan below us. One place higher than our t20 standing, though.
