After being one day kings up to the turn of the century Lancashire have been dire at 50 over cricket ever since.

They face Leicester next with the management no doubt claiming is a chance to get back on track. In reality it is a game to avoid the wooden spoon.

While their 3 defeats have been close and have so far avoided the abject defeats of some previous campaigns their only win was against troubled Durham who are in a mess.

The selection seems muddled and confused. The captaincy is naturally naive and inexperienced. But most worrying of all the approach seems to be a couple of years behind current thinking. Our squad is full of steamers who pitch it up and swing it while our batsmen mostly suit the longer game.

While I would prefer we do better in the red ball stuff our 50 over results should be so much better for a club of our resources.
