Lancashire v Glamorgan

Lancashire seem to be playing a lot of good cricket at the moment and rumours that Anderson might return for this game. Assume we will see much the same XI as last week. Still do not quite understand why Walker was omitted from the squad after not seemingly doing anything wrong. Assume Neser will come in for Harris.
As the 2nd XI game did not start today it is not possible to see who has been left behind.

I see Ruaidhri Smith had a first ball duck and didn’t bowl whilst playing club cricket on Saturday in the South Wales Prem. so, seems a long way off being available for selection.
Harris has returned to Middx. at the end of his two match loan deal.

Neser for Harris obviously but i would not mind seeing douthwaite replacing callum taylor.. i think he is the better batsman and not sure what taylor gives us as a spinner that root or the occasional labuschagne twirl couldn't ...

I tend to agree. Douthwaite looks OK with the bat. Not just a slogger. Might depend on the pitch and whether spin will be a factor.

Douthwaite was stated to be unavailable for the Kent game due to a “heel impingement” - this often culminates in a 12 week rehab and possible surgery.

Not sure what the underlying problem is. Can be due to a bony spur and need surgery.

Appears that day 2 of the 2nd XI game has already been called off. Feel very sorry for them as there cannot be anything for them to do.

The BBC preview for the game suggests that Hogan will be rested. If that's the case, you would expect Salter, Walker or Weighell to come in.

The bowlers didn’t get a heavy workout in the last game with Hogan only bowling 21 overs in the match. Also 2 extra days off. Not quite sure why he wouldn’t play, especially as the weather forecast suggests there will be plenty of breaks in play.

2nd team game has now been abandoned. Not sure if a couple of them will be driving up to Manchester as back up to the 1st team. No announcement yet of 1st XI squad.

13 man squad:
J Cooke, Lloyd, Labuschagne, Root, Carlson, C Cooke (c, wk), Taylor, Douthwaite, Salter, Neser, Smith, van der Gugten, Carey

Website says only McIlroy now out injured so I still don't quite understand what Walker did wrong to be in the squad ahead of Carey for the Northants game and then left out against Kent, having not played in between?

Can't see Smith coming in yet as he still has not bowled in anger since his injury. Expect he is there to keep rehabilitating and expect him and one from Taylor, Douthwaite or Salter to miss out, depending on the pitch. With Anderson playing it could be seamer-friendly, but Lancashire have a number of good spin options which Glamorgan are lacking.

Agree about Smith, would have thought if he was fit he would have bowled some overs for St Fagans at the weekend, however you never know. I remember a few years ago Hogan being rested but bowling 10 overs over a weekend for Newport, so things don’t always pan out as you would expect.

Can't say that the team looks all that balanced for this game with just the 2 specialist seamers. Douthwaite and Lloyd are useful, but wouldn't exactly be picked on their bowling alone.
