not a 4 day county cricketer is he?

not really sure what he is but balbirnie is a very fine cricketing sounding name

very few first class games in a long career... marnus can't arrive soon enough

edit ... awful dismissal just before lunch

Worst possible end to the session. Before that ball things didn't look too bad. This looks a pitch with plenty of runs in it.

Cannot blame the conditions for the return from Balbirnie as batting has not been that difficult.

Have to say that Carlson looking full of confidence. Cooke needing a bit of luck to still be there. The Glamorgan batsmen generally just playing too many poor shots on what is a good batting track. Will need well over 300 to put any pressure on the Northants batsmen.

Oh dear!
Two in two.
Our lack of a proper spinner may become an issue in this game. Ball turning already and the forecast set fair with Northants batting last.

Douthwaite also batting on off stump. Maybe a Maynard idea but just means you have to play around your front pad if ball on middle stump. Does not seem right.

With two of the top three batsmen not performing regularly, this places a real burden on the rest of the team. Effectively, two batsmen light, every game so far. Not really good enough.
Maybe that if Selman does not get a score in the 2nd innings Joe Cooke will get a go. Without any other specialist openers, the lack of runs from Selman is a big problem. Would be an issue dropping your "overseas" player but Balbirnie always looked a questinable selection given his first class record.

Good to see Douthwaite fulfilling the role of a specialist batsman. Always looked to have the technical ability as long as he could keep the "slogging" in check. He is not a frontline bowler (at the moment anyway) but good to have some overs from him available. Would facilitate the selection of a specialist spinner, if we had one!

Can never understand why professional sportsmen don't think they have to attend to the basics anymore. Douthwaite backing up at the non-strikers end with his bat in his right rather than left hand. Would certainly pick up a youngster on it.

Just want to say what a revelation it is to be able to watch Glam live on my iPad inside and outside on my phone. Making an old cricket enthusiast very happy. Very much enjoy Nick Webb’s commentary and have a soft spot for Ed Bevan, who, although open to criticism, is Glamorgan through and through. Heartfelt thanks to all those who have made this possible - technology is a wonderful thing! C’mon Glamorgan - I have faith - 400 is achievable!

Looking at the way this pitch is playing I think 400 is par. Don't quite understand Northants decision at the toss, especially as it looks like it may start to favour spin as the game goes on.

Not the worst opening day but I think par on this pitch is nearer 400 than 300. Have given some of our wickets away too cheaply. Excellent from the skipper and hopefully he can guide us to near 350.
I think Northants did us a big favour by choosing to field as I think it might get a bit trickier to bat on day 4. Always stick to the adage that when you win the toss you either choose to bat or think about it for a second and then choose to bat.

Apologies this is slightly off topic but can somebody update me on Labuschagne? What is he going to be available for, Just the county championship? And what about Neser and Ingram?

Thanks

The original plan is that he and Neser would play in 50 over competition and he and Ingram in T20. Question mark is whether he will have any Australian commitments.

I believe I read some time ago Neser and Marnus available for last 2 4 day games and that was after we knew Queensland were in their Final. I see other Australians are starting to appear at Gloucs and Middx.
