Lloyd demonstrating how not to play as an opener! Swish at a wide one.

Difficult to see where one will come from given the focus on white ball cricket. A different skill.I think that is the least of our concerns.![]()

Pre-season or not, some talent in that Somerset team and a couple of composed batting performancesI wouldn't get too carried away about the result. It was good to see the batsmen getting some runs but the two main Somerset seamers, Overton and Davey, only bowled 9 overs between them in the 2nd innings. The pitch was as dead as a proverbial.![]()

Plenty of positives from the batting performance. Just don't think the win is worth commenting on. My concern is the lack of penetration in the bowling attack and the absence of a spinner to hold down an end. Unless the wicket is seamer friendly I am not sure how we will take 20 wickets.
No one is pretending that it's winning the Championship but it's good habits being built against a team that were last year's runners-up and 2019's 2nd place team, and a lot more resilience in the batting line-up. Carlson has looked good across pre-season, Douthwaite looks settled, and there have been worse top threes in recent history than Selman, Lloyd, and Balbirnie/Labuschange.
