13 man squad:
Cooke
Carey
Cooke
Cullen
Douthwaite
Hemphrey
Hogan
Morgan
Root
Selman
Sisodiya
TvdG
Taylor

Fits with report that Bull and Brown released. Has to be said that Bull has been disappointing but Sisodiya will need to bowl quite differently in this format. MM in the video states that Cooke and Selman will open with Morgan at 3 so Hemphrey must miss out. Carlson must be relieved he has a contract for another 2 years. Cooke and Cullen also both playing so that's 5 of the top 6 batsmen. Then between Root and Taylor. Only 3 seamers + Douthwaite so I guess they will all play. Sisodiya as the spinner, although could just use Taylor and leave out Sisodiya. Hope none of the bowlers get injured in the warm up but I guess as it's a home game it shouldn't be a problem getting someone in.

The only players not to have been named in a squad so far this season are Walker, McIlroy, Horton, Brown and Lloyd (unfit). Of these the surprise is Walker unless he has an injury. Nothing has been said.
Cannot see any report of either Walker or McIlroy playing club cricket for their allocated clubs.

Selman
J Cooke
Morgan
Root
C Cooke
Taylor
Cullen
Douthwaite
Carey
TvdG
Hogan

I guess this is how we might line up. It doesn't remotely look like a strong side, but the structure would be similar to what we might have for next season.

Bull getting released would make sense, as it would be extravagant to have 3 specialist spinners in the squad. Especially with Labuschagne (and maybe Taylor) probably being the only spinner to be used in some games.

The question is whether you go in with just Taylor as your spinner. My guess is Sisodiya will play instead of Root.

There would hopefully be a stronger XI fielded next season:
Selman/Cooke
New signing
Labuschagne
Lloyd
Carlson/Root
Cooke
Douthwaite/Taylor
Smith
Sisodiya/Salter
De Lange
TvdG/Hogan/Walker/Carey

The players signed until end of 2022 i.e. Carlson and Root must pay back some of the faith put in them.

Yeah, they could go either way. I think Maynard mentions in his interview about Cullen "batting down the order" which should suggest at 7. I can't say that I would have much faith with Douthwaite at 6, but we shall see...

I wouldn't expect Salter or Sisodiya to play unless the pitch is taking a lot of turn. Labuschagne and Taylor will probably fill that role.

How are we looking in terms of contracts for next season? The BBC site mentions that we have a dozen or so players out of contract, so is it something like this?

Selman - Under contract until 2021
Hemphrey - Release
Carlson - Under contract until 2022
Lloyd - Under contract until 2021
Root - Under contract until 2022
Owen Morgan - Release unless he does something spectacular
Brown - Release
Taylor - Will be given a new contract
J Cooke - Will probably be given a new contract

C Cooke - Under contract until 2021
Horton - Under contract until 2024
Cullen - This game might be decisive for him

Wagg - Release
Douthwaite - Under contract until 2021

Salter - Under contract until 2021
Bull - Release
Sisodiya - Will be given a new contract

McIlroy - Release
Carey - Wouldn't be surprised to see him go
De Lange - Under contract until 2021
Walker - Under contract until 2021
TvdG - Will be given a new contract
Hogan - Might be given a new contract
Smith - Under contract until 2021

A new opener will be the obvious priority for next season, but another seamer will also probably be needed.

Keep forgetting about Labuschagne's leg spin.
Can play another batsman instead of Salter/Sisodiya and play Taylor rather than Douthwaite.
Hope that batting line up would score a few more runs.

Many thanks for this and have to agree with your thoughts. Maynard stated in an early interview that everyone would be given a chance and this has happened so no criticism there. Taylor and Sisodiya have impressed but others have been given lots of chances over several seasons so can’t be surprised if contracts terminated. Sad to see Wagg go as has been a terrific servant and hope Hogan gets another year for his benefit. Overton would have been great but not a big enough Club, unfortunately.

Have rethought my strongest red ball XI for next season:
Selman/Cooke
New signing
Labuschagne
Lloyd
Carlson/Root
Cooke
Taylor
Smith
De Lange
TvdG/Hogan/Walker/Carey
TvdG/Hogan/Walker/Carey

Batting much better with Taylor coming in at 7.
4 seamers plus Lloyd. Spin from Labuschagne and Taylor.

Just having a look at the averages so far this season. Obviously a small sample size but confirms what we have been saying about who stays and who goes.

In Bob Willis trophy.
Batting:
CZ Taylor 106@53
CB Cooke 235@33.57
De Lange 131@32.75
WT Root 230@28.75
T van der Gugten 62@20.66
GG Wagg) 100@20
DA Douthwaite 136@19.42
NJ Selman 140@17.5
RAJ Smith 26@13
TN Cullen 44@11
JM Cooke 21@10.5
CR Hemphrey 62@10.33
KA Bull 50@7.14

Bowling
RAJ Smith 3 wickets @ 13.66 Econ 2.93
CZ Taylor 1 wkt @ 20 Econ 2.22
M de Lange 9 wickets @ 24.22 Econ 2.68
GG Wagg 11 wickets @ 24.72 Econ 3.73
T van der Gugten 7 wickets @ 35.28 Econ 3.13
DA Douthwaite 9 Wickets @ 41.11 Econ 3.89
MG Hogan 6wickets @ 49.16 Econ 2.85
KA Bull 9wickets @ 51.33 Econ 4.51

These figures show that Bull has been too expensive and Hogan has not taken the wickets we would expect. Douthwaite is not consistent enough and Wagg also a bit expensive. De Lange has bowled well and Smith's injury reduced the strength of our attack.

In the Blast
Batting
CB Cooke 170@56.66 SR 127.81
NJ Selman 35@35 109.37
M de Lange 50@25 135.13
A Balbirnie 92@23 146.03
AG Salter 19@19 118.75
AO Morgan 13@13 144.44

GG Wagg 30@7.5 90.9
T van der Gugten 6@6 120
KS Carlson 16@5.33 64
P Sisodiya 4 400

Reflects lack of players able to score significant number of runs quickly enough, other than Cooke. Douthwaite may come good. I would be tempted to look at Smith as an opener when fully fit.

Bowling
Name Balls Runs Wkts Ave Econ
CZ Taylor 30 38 3 12.66 7.6
AG Salter 96 121 6 20.16 7.56
M de Lange 62 83 4 20.75 8.03
RAJ Smith 18 21 1 21 7
T van der Gugten 54 71 3 23.66 7.88
P Sisodiya 96 91 3 30.33 5.68
DA Douthwaite 42 64 1 64 9.14
GG Wagg 48 72 0 9

The big plus so far this season has been Sisodiya in T20. Maybe he and Salter can develop a Croft/Cosker type partnership in time. Great to have 2 spinners going in opposite directions. Smith, De Lange and TvdG can provide the seam. Douthwaite shouldn't bowl in this format. Wagg no longer effective.

Meaningless statistics due to sample size.

Changes will happen - there will be money available due to a couple of high earners moving on. Reduced ECB funding to Counties for 2021 season will be revealed later this month and recruitment plans will be formulated once the overall financial package is confirmed.

I said it was a small sample size. However the numbers confirm the statements on this site regards the likes of Hemphrey and Wagg.

Spot on apart from the order maybe. Taylor is the spinner. Pretty damp so not unreasonable and bowling first.

A rare early wicket for us on a distinctly green pitch.

The talk of Carey not being in the best condition seems accurate. He has moobs and a paunch.
