We can probably afford to have him batting at number 8, but I guess we also have the option of pushing him up to 7 if we ever want to change the balance of the side.
Potentially if we wanted a front line spinner or if there is no Labuschagne and Taylor not able to give the spin option.

Glamman bemoaned the fact that we don’t seem to bring through our promising Welsh players. However, I am hopeful that things might change with the new pathway of 4 regional Welsh teams rather than so many different counties from u10 onwards. Not sure if instigated by new Cricket Wales chief Leshia Hawkins alongside Glamorgan Director Wallace. I also understand that Welsh age teams chosen from regional squads will NOW be run by Glamorgan with higher level coaching for each discipline and specialised fitness programmes, etc with the most talented eventually becoming Academy players. Also read somewhere that an Academy team may enter a South Wales league to play against top teams such as St Fagans, Cardiff, Etc to gain valuable experience and against allocated Glam players when available. If successful, this will take a few years to filter through so interesting to follow. Any views, anyone on this new system?

Definitely some changes but generally the same coaches involved. Will take a few years to see if it works so just hope we aren't having this same conversation in 5 years time.

Indeed. Or if we ever wanted to give Cooke a break behind the stumps, we could play another keeper at 8.

Given that Cullen has previously played as a batsman, I would expect him to bat higher. Will be interesting to see if Horton gets a game next season. When he becomes fully available I expect Cullen to be released as he is not a great keeper and has not kept up with his initial batting promise.

I think Cullen batted at 8 in the season just gone, but whichever order they wanted to put him and Neres in the point remains.

Also batted 3. Douthwaite was at 7 in the game he batted 8.

Just Lloyd, Carlson and Smith. I think most of Taylor's age group cricket was played in Australia.
Hopefully we will also see plenty of the other Welsh products: Salter, Sisodiya, Carey, Walker and Horton.
We still need more productivity from the academy.
Lloyd and Smith are products of English private schools, how much were they involved in any Wales / Glamorgan programme as well as Shrewsbury which has a very good recent track record in producing County Cricketers ?

Both went to Shrewsbury for just the two years for A levels. Otherwise their cricket development was with Wales and Glamorgan.

Looks like we might have done well to get Neser's name down on paper with Morkel now leaving Surrey.

Dare I say it but I think Maynard and Wallace are doing OK on the signings, trimming the squad and, hopefully, new pathway for youngsters but time will tell!

Still a 21 man squad. However the majority will need a new contract at the end of 2021 so make or break for a few.

Thought I would consider the value of each player to the club for next season based on their likely effectiveness and the number of formats they would be expected to contribute in. I am sure this does not necessarily reflect what they are paid. For example, while Hogan has been a great performer for the club, I am not sure what his impact will be in 2021.
This is the order I would have:
Labuschagne - Undoubtedly number 1!
Neser - Great to have our 2 overseas players at the top of the list. Not always been the case in recent years. Ingram is down the list based on the last few years performances.
Cooke
Lloyd - Cooke and Lloyd need to score runs in the middle order.
Smith - Many might disagree but if he stays fit he plays in all formats. Not sure how quick Neser is but Smith is the quickest of the remainder squad. Big question is if he stays fit.
Selman - If he scores some runs alongside Labuschagne then we will win more than we lose. Also showed what he can do in T20. Ridiculous he didn't play from the start. Also number 1 slip fielder.
TvdG
Sisodiya
Ingram - hope he performs up to the money he is paid. If not, surely his last season.
Hogan
Douthwaite - need to sort out his role. Not sure where he fits in to the 4 day team.
Carlson - Glamorgan have put faith in him - time to deliver
Root - Needs to rekindle CC form of 2019
Salter
Taylor - Hope he will push on but still a work in progress
Carey
Hemphrey
Walker
Cullen
Joe Cooke
McIlroy
Horton

Hobart Hurricanes trumpeting their big hitting signing Colin Ingram, interesting to see how he goes after a period out of the game. His form wasn`t great before his isolation in SA.

Whilst pleased for him personally, disappointed from a selfish Glammy viewpoint to see Neser`s good form rewarded by a call up to the Aussie Test Squad. We may not see as much of him in a Daffodil as we hoped.
