Yeah, looking like a tough start to the season. If we can't bring in a temporary bowler, then maybe a starting line-up of?

Lloyd
Selman
Balbirnie
Carlson
Root
Cooke
Taylor
Smith/Douthwaite
Carey
TvdG
Hogan

Smith is probably one of the main seamers now and would bowl ahead of Carey and Douthwaite. Unfortunately I am not sure he is fit.

Smith has taken 68 First Class wickets in 30 games over 8 years - and he’s classed as probably one of the main seamers ?

Douthwaite given a 3 year contract extension - Very surprising !

In desperate need of some proven experience in this squad.

Not surprisingly he has improved. Main issue has been injuries. He is probably the quickest of the seamers, able to bowl at 85mph.

Not surprising to see that Smith is indeed injured for the university game.

Will be interesting to see whether McIlroy is given a chance to impress.

Have not seen McIlroy at all so interested to see how he goes. Feel sorry for Smith who seems to have a recurrence of his hamstring problem. Hopefully be back soon.

The seamers have done OK but lack a bit of penetration. One thing that has tended to happen in previous years when Glamorgan has been in this situation is to get a loan player, usually from Middlesex. Might not be surprised if they go down that route again until Neser arrives and Smith fit.

Fakhar Zaman couldn`t hit the ball off the the square when with us for T20, now he scores 193 in ODI v South Africa.

There is a long history of players coming good after a period at Glamorgan when they play poorly.

Presumably the development of their game enhanced by good pitches they play on and the quality coaching they get.................

No barb intended at John Derrick

The 2nd team playing today is:
JM Cooke, SJ Reingold, CR Brown, AG Salter, TN Cullen*†, A Horton, LJ Carey, AW Gorvin, RI Walker, P Sisodiya, SJ Jardine, B Morris

Slightly odd that Brown is playing having been released. He's either good enough or if not another youngster should be playing.

Sisodiya appears to have recovered from his shoulder problem.

I assume Carey will go to Leeds as cover with McIlroy, Hogan, TvdG and Douthwaite playing.

Important for Walker to get his bowling back on track after not featuring last season. Not sure if he was injured.

Not sure who Morris and Jardine are? Douglas??

Just announced that we have signed James Weighell. Not someone I know anything about - not played much first team cricket over the last couple of years with Leics and Durham. Seamer who can bat a bit.

Released twice by Durham and not offered a contract by Leicestershire following a brief loan period after being released last season.

It’s a bit of a punt as he lacks the necessary experience we desperately need. Glammy need to start shopping in M&S as opposed to B&M Home Bargains if we are to see improvements.

My guess is that if Neser was here and Smith fit then we would not have signed him. Question marks still with Carey and Walker. Not sure the job of 2nd team blogger that Walker seems to have been given is one I would want.

Yes bit of a punt as suggested at the cheaper end of the market. What did MM and MW see in our internal game that Durham and Leics didn`t ?

With less Kolpaks and EUs available there may be opportunities for home players like Weighell. Good luck to him.

The North East has always produced good cricketers so thinking of the region`s links with Glammy. Pre Durham`s 1st class status we had Geoff Holmes and Ian Smith. Holmes being a fighter when we weren`t at our strongest. As to signings from Durham Nicky Peng didn`t work out, nor Roseberry who was a North East lad but did we get him from Middx ? Any others ?
