Am quite excited to see if the performances in the 50 over competition will lead to many changes from the Northants game. We know Carlson and Douthwaite aren't available but I don't know what the injury status of a number of the players is.. The XI that played the first game was:
Selman, Hemphrey, Labuschagne, Lloyd, Root, Carlson, Wagg, De Lange, TvdG, Hogan.

Selman obviously did not play in the One-Day cup but has not scored many runs in the 2s while Lawlor has staked a claim for a place and might open. I think Murphy is still injured as he is not playing today. I am not sure Hemphrey really wants to open so that might mean Selman and Lawlor do the job. The other option is to bring Brown into open with Lawlor. Labuschagne has not performed but hopefully is getting used to the conditions. Lloyd plays. Carlson is out and probably would not have played anyway. If Meschede or Smith are fit then I would prefer to see one of them take Wagg's place. Carey did well in the one day games and should get a chance alongside 2 from the other three pace bowlers. The BBC website suggested Bull might come in but that woudl be in place of one of the seamers and they may stil think that Labuschagne and Root cover the spin department. Newport is not the biggest ground and I am not sure how their pitches behave.
Therefore my possible XI
Lawlor
Selman
Hemphrey
Labuschagne
Root
Lloyd
Cooke
Smith or Meschede
2 from De Lange, TvdG, Hogan
Carey

Thoughts?

Bit confused about Hogan. Hasn’t played in the last few 50 Overs games and isn’t playing for his allocated Club today to get practice - checked and it’s Newport so could get used to pitch. Is he injured?
Looking forward to listening. I don’t suppose there’ll be live feed on an out ground.

Nice to see James Harris get his maiden century the other day. I watched the game on t.v.; we can ill afford to lose batmen of his quality !!!!

Brilliant innings by Harris.

Has always had the technique to be a top 6 batsman.

Best seam bowling all rounder Wales has produced since Wooller ?

13 man squad: Cooke*+ Lloyd, Labuschagne, Carey, Hemphrey, Selman, Hogan, vd Gugten, de Lange, Bull, Lawlor, Root & Wagg

Still not sure of the benefits of playing Wagg in red ball cricket. Disappointed that Meschede cannot fill that role. Otherwise no surprises and expect to see Lawlor opening. Who makes the final XI will be interesting. Do they go with a specialist spinner in addition to the options provided by Labuschagne and Root especially at this time of the season? Which of the quicks misses out? Seems a risk playing Hogan if he has not had a proper game since his hamstring injury which cannot be a quick fix in a 38-year-old.
Weather set fair for the week and I wish Newport well in hosting the game.

Glamman, it looks like Wagg might be one of MM`s go to men, something he wasn`t under RDBC. MM signed him, coaches tend to loyal to players they think they can trust. Wagg had a pretty good 50 over tournament. For what it is worth, probably little, the only game I saw last year was Middx in T20 when admittedly most things went our way, I was impressed by Glammy team spirit and body language and Wagg seemed to be a very positive influence, overty more so than Ingram and Cooke. Douthwaite was quoted acknowledging input from senior players. Perhaps Wagg is earning his money in more ways than wickets and runs ?

ESPN writers nominate Ingram as one of the players giving least value in IPL

Ingram had a poor IPL and Big Bash. Hopefully he can turn things round when he returns to Wales.

Agree about Maynard and Wagg. He would be in my white ball team but am not sure he does quite enough now with the ball in red ball cricket. Hopefully his positive attitude will not be so necessary if confidence builds. I wonder if Smith might take his place when he is fit.

Hogan and Carey left out of XI with Bull coming in and Lawlor listed at 6. I would much prefer to see Carey instead of Wagg but maybe they are thinking the pitch is going to be very slow. Lot resting on TvdG and De Lange but Carey has shown himself to be more containing. Gloucs batting first.

Very surprised by that team selection, but they know far more about the pitch than me.

Hopefully we are not a frontline bowler short...

TvdG and De Lange could have to bowl a lot of overs.

Good start by De Lange. Bull taking the slip catch which is good news as a number have gone down recently. Assume Selman and Lloyd are also alongside Cooke.

Just seen that Donald down to bat 3 for Hampshire in their 4 day game today. Getting opportunities so hope he can take them.

Lloyd bowling first change - not ideal.
All the Gloucs batsmen have to do is see off De Lange and TvdG and then cash in. Although as I say that Wagg removes Dent so what do I know.
