I stand corrected !! Even so I do not think bowling 10 overs is demanding of too much effort.

I suggest you speak to a 1st class seam bowler or to someone who has analysed the forces that are involved when bowling as I have rather than making statements based on I am not sure what. Don’t compare to club cricket or even past eras as 1st class pitches now are like concrete- no give when landing. It’s not the energy use which is the problem but the stresses on the body.

BBC website reports in regard to next week's game:
Douthwaite and fellow student Kiran Carlson are unavailable because of university exams, while Kieran Bull will provide a specialist spin option and veteran paceman Michael Hogan hopes to be fit after a hamstring strain.
No Salter? Injured?

This is just what has been reported by the BBC (presumably Nick Webb). I am not aware of any injury problem with Salter. He has been captaining the 2nds in all their games recently.

Bull would make more sense, I guess, as he did OK at the end of last season and has also been scoring some runs in the 2nds.

I fear Salter may have been consigned to the 2nds for the future.

We've got some half decent part-time spin options now so I wonder how many games hes going to get. Also, if we're pushing Bull as 1st choice also.

Salter may be the safer option in T20.

I'd say not needed in T20. Part-time spin works well in T20 - we've got Ingram as well whos been great bowling in T20.

Why not play the extra batsman?

Should not need as many batsmen in T20 - Not worth having specialist batsmen coming in at 7 when there are only 20 overs to bat. The top 5 need to get most of the runs if you are going to post a big total. We have enough specialist bowlers (including Salter) who can score a few at the end. Bowling is key and ideally you want to choose from at least 6 bowlers each of whom is decent. If Salter only goes for 25 in 4 overs as opposed to 4 overs from lesser spinners which goes for 45 then that puts the required run rate up by 1/over.

To play devil's advocate, Salter's economy in T20s is 8.17 (41 innings, 702 balls). In comparison, Ingram's economy is 7.86 (67 innings, 931 balls).

Exactly my point. People like Ingram have done well bowling in T20. We're not short of spin options now is my point so we might not need Salter.

You need your five best T20 bowlers and if they can bat as well great. You also want a couple of other options. You shouldn’t get bowled out in 20 overs.
