Had a smile yesterday in this age of clean living, fitness programmed modern professional sportman to see two Glammy boys in Canterbury High Street smoking.
Disappointing. Carey?

Definitely hope to see Walker and/or Szymanski playing in some of the remaining T20s.

Good to see the 2nds have another game - this time a 4 day match versus a combined Kent/Northants side.

Brown out for 85 and Carlson 61.

Interesting that neither Douthwaite or Lawlor are playing. Presume injured as would expect them to want to keep pushing to play in one of the remaining Championship games. Cullen did not look terribly convincing at 3.

Some must be playing for contract renewal, particularly Morgan.

Some interesting developments today:
- Root extends contract until end of 2022
- 2nd XI fixtures announced.

No more 2nd XI trophy I assume on the basis that more "2nd XI" players will be playing in the one-day cup this year. As a result only one 2nd XI friendly during the 1st XI 50-over competition. To make up the calendar, Championship games extended to 4 days. It will be interesting to see how many matches last 4 days. There will be two factors primarily at work:
1. The quality of the batting
2. The quality of the pitches at 2nd team grounds

It will certainly help batsmen develop the skill of batting longer but I wonder if there are now too many pressures pushing things in the other direction? They will be playing twenty T20 matches.

After the website has said that 5 players are self-isolating, three of them, Selman, Gorvin and Cullen, are playing for the 2s against Derbyshire. Selman is 93 not out in a total of 177/4. Clearly not good enough to challenge for a place in our productive 1st XI top order. His absence from the 1st team would certainly indicate that he is on his way.

Selman can have no complaints - he’s been given ample opportunities. Averaging 27 as a top order batter after 59 games means that you inevitably will be released. Not many players (if any) reappear after being released by Glamorgan.

It won’t come as a shock to him as regular performance reviews would confirm whether or not a contract would be offered at the end of the season.

That’s fine as long as the alternatives are an improvement.

What is disappointing is that there is no mention on the website or the twitter feed that the game is even taking place.

Pathetic from the people who run the website. This evening they have posted a link to the Live Score site for the 2nd team game that started yesterday. No mention of the fact that our 2nds are dominating the game. They were put into bat and scored 379 with runs from Selman (97), Nicholls (41) and a century last wicket stand between Kellaway (66)and Phillips (28) plus 42 from Gorvin. In reply Derbyshire are 125/9. Smith has managed 13 overs with 4/31 and McIlroy has 2/18. A wicket each for Gorvin and Taylor. All in all happier reading than the debacle at Sophia Gardens. Shame they can't be bothered to post anything!

The same people who were probably focusing on the 1st XI game (surely you can't be arguing the 2nd XI is more important just because your young star is playing?). They've posted a link to a scorecard, that has very limited video or information about an away game in Derbyshire. What more can you expect?

The link was posted 2 days into the game. Not more important but worth a couple of lines to update at the end of the day. Nick Webb was able to give updates while busy commentating.

As the club see no great need to post any information about the 2nd team game, even though the 1st team game finished yesterday, can I let you know they are in a dominant position. Despite a 56 run last wicket stand from Derbyshire, Glamorgan enjoyed a 198 run 1st innings lead. They then scored 253/6 dec, with runs from Taylor, Cullen and Smith and have set a target of 452. They then reduced Derbyshire to 31/3, Taylor taking the key wicket of Madsen.

The 2nds complete a comfortable win with good performances throughout the team. I am sure you’ll be able to read about it in more detail on the website. 😊
