Looking at the national averages, I spotted that Mark Cosgrove had an overall batting average of 18.33, somewhat lower than the so called miserable performances of most of our youngsters. I have seen no stories of rejection about him.

Billy Root if he joined us, would just be another young apprentice; and were it not for big brother I guess he would be lucky to get in Halifax 2 nd X1 !

Mentioned on commentary that he has had a poor season. Has been resigned for next.

Root could be a Kettleborough. Personally have seen no reports of this possible move.

In his interview Croft stated that all the current squad would be back next year so have to assume that is the case for the moment.

Most, if not all, are under contract, and too costly to jettison. Same goes for all the admin/coaches, etc. No real change next season.

Supposedly Carlson wants to leave, not sure about that and I take that with a pinch of salt.Hopefully next season we get in 2 or 3 old pros to supplement the youngsters.Hopefully we can also ditch having bowlers being turned into batsman, and get the right person for the right position

Karl Brown released from Lancashire. I thought he would be because he hasn't been involved much this year. Has some experience across all forms and we should probably be talking to him. I thought we should have signed Paul Horton at the time who has done okay at Leicestershire.
I don't really see that there are many experienced batsmen to choose from. I tried to make a list the other day but most of them are too old or not worth it or recently extended contracts.

Will Tavare - very quiet this year.
Chesney Hughes - was at Northants but not played much in 2018.
Arun Harinath - Been at Surrey for years, mainly 2nd team but has scored first class 100s.
Karl Brown - now free agent - has experience.
Michael Carberry - Left Leics under a cloud - too old?
Richard Levi - not had a good year. Better one day player than first class?
Ian Cockbain - T20 specialist - not a great 1st class record.
Callum McLeod - watched him bat superbly in the Scot v Eng ODI. Derbyshire gave him a summer contract - should we look at some of the Scots who are MUCH improved?
Andrew Umeed - Released today by Warwickshire - in the record books for the second slowest 1st class 100 - sounds like a grinder which might not be a bad thing for us.

Most of you will probably say none of the above which means going down the Kolpak road. I don't see where we are going to find 2 to 3 experienced batsmen to bring the young ones forward.

To be honest Uskexile I would rather keep the existing squad than venture into that list !
What is more I would be tempted to get Anuerin Donald back !!

There lies the problem. We can only really attract other counties cast offs or 2nd XI squad players. I think we will have a real job finding decent batsmen in the UK. Kolpak or british passport might be the only answer which will go down like a lead balloon with most members.

Brown only averages 27. Umeed would just be the same as our youngsters. However Tavare and Harinath would fit the bill if could be attracted.

Plenty on here about getting the best people in place off the pitch, Director of Cricket, Coach etc.

Credit been given to Paul Downton for the job he has done at DOC at Kent. I see in the Kent post about them signing a Dutch fast bowler their High Performance Manager whatever that means is Roland Lefebre who struck me as being a top man when with us.

Interesting read elsewhere - Carlson wants to leave having been approached by Middlesex as he's not happy with Croft, Meschede not happy with the White-ball only contract on the table, and Billy Root will be one of the batsmen coming in.
" Interesting read elsewhere ". Well, that's as nebulous a statement as can be made.

Where exactly is elsewhere ? Source please.
You may now read about Billy Root on the official website.

So much of what happens is shrouded in secrecy so not unreasonable for people to post things without divulging sources. A good prediction from Ger27 and at least shows the club is trying to address the problems. Would be good to see another slightly more established batsman who can play in the top 3 brought in. The problem with Root is that in the last 3 first class games he has played he has gone in at 5, 7 and 8. I'm not sure how much he has batted in the top 3? If his technique is suited to batting in the middle order I don't want him to be forced into going in at the top and failing as we did with Wright etc.

Vetch and Glamman both unwilling to acknowledge that some have far better knowledge/contacts re. what’s actually going on as opposed to what’s in the public domain.

I am perfectly willing to acknowledge some people know more than me. I never questioned the post about Root. Not sure what has prompted this post. It's not what you know but who you know.
