To be honest Mav I would not be interested in seeing Wednesday get into the Premiership unless there was a real chance that they could be there through their own efforts the following season. I watched Wednesday stagnate in the first person at that level (ala Villa now) and there was nothing enjoyable about it. Equally, I would not want to witness one of those one-season wonder efforts wherein you get the Premiership pay cheque, but have to endure getting pounded results and performance wise over a season.
I actually like the Championship. There is some sort of footballing honesty and integrity about it that seems to be generally devoid of the genuine cash-cow centric have / have not flip a coin status of the Premiership. Don't get me wrong, I could and would deal with us being back in the top flight as long as there was some sort of positive entertainment kick back for Owls fans on that (the early 90s were kind to us at that level and were genuinely a footballing pleasure). If that proves not to be an option I would be more than happy to stay a Championship club against the likes of: Leeds, Forest, Derby, Wolves, Ipswich, Norwich, Birmingham, Fulham, Brighton, Bolton and Blackburn. My first Wednesday game on the terraces was in January 1980 and I have watched the Owls compete against the aforementioned teams from then till now at three different levels and to me they are all still potentially 'big' clubs with similar histories and 'potentials' as Wednesday .
We have got new owners as of ratification at some point very soon (I believe this week). We are currently mid table this season and should realistically stay up this year. That said the football has been dull, very dull. Our away performances have been better, whereas at home we generally love a 0-0 or 1-1 draw. In 15 home games we have scraped 8 goals, only 1 or 2 of which were from open play (I kid you not). Whilst things are crushingly dull the thing is that I have seen so many teams taken over by consortiums wherein the end outcome has been anything but positive for the club involved. Fact is we Wednesday fans have no real idea as to which model we are about to be saddled up with, but can only hope.
I have at least three more games left in me this season. In two weeks time I will be sat in the home end at Derby with Rams friends watching a likely lesson being handed to the Owls. In March me, my brother and my dad are doing the whole hospitality meal / suite function thing for the home game against Fulham (my last one was a 4-0 spanking away at Craven Cottage just before Christmas :-( ). Then in April my wife has booked the Premier Inn for the night of our home game against Leeds! This will be the first time that the whole Pytchley Owls Massive (2 adults / 2 kids) has gone mob handed to a Wednesday game....it will be both my boys first live fixture!!
Onwards and upwards I hope!
