Expect to see the same XI plus De Lange coming in for Smith to make up the 12 this week. The Friday start must make it easier for Carlson to fit in his Uni work. Maybe De Lange will then replace Carey to give him a rest although Lords was hardly a busy 4 days.
As many of us have said the lack of an effective 4th bowling option is the main concern.
Donald needs some runs this week otherwise he might find himself making way for an all-rounder.
Only one more 4 day game after this and then a month of 50 over matches.

I would have De Lange replace Donald or Lloyd.Salter although would be at risk, just don't think he justifies being in the side in my opinion (which I know doesn't count for much :chuckel: )

They might go with 4 seamers and omit Salter as suggested by Ed Bevan on the BBC website for the Lords game but as has been mentioned, Salter being selected as much for his batting as his bowling. Personally I would rest one of the quicks and bring in Smith or Meschede to bat at 8 leaving out Donald.
We'll know more when we see who is playing in the 2's game today but I don't expect any change of plan.

Meschede, Smith and Wagg named as playing in Southampton today so no changes for tomorrow other than whether De Lange plays.

Interesting 2nd XI team with only 2 specialist batsmen as far as I can make out. Reflects the relative strengths of the squad.

Does anyone know anything about Joe Voke? I see he is just 19 and scored 77 for WMC in their game last week. Plays for Newport but only averaged 22 in 22 games for their 1sts last season.

Joe is Rob Voke's son who many people around Monmouthshire will know. Started his cricket at Sudbrook CC but guessing after showing promise he has moved clubs to Newport to play at a higher standard.

I see that he played most of Wales MC games in 2017 with a couple of 70s and a 96 opening the innings. Could be one to watch?

Thanks for the info. As you say he seemed to do better for WMC than for Newport. Hopefully he will kick on.

Difficult to understand how our website keeps getting the squad names wrong. Last week De Lange was injured and did not travel to Lords. This week Smith is playing in Southampton and therefore it is difficult to see how he can be part of the squad.

No surprises - this time Carey having a rest.

Given the placid nature of the usual home pitches we will need a big 1st innings score and I expect some tired seamers at the end of the Kent innings unless they can really get amongst them with the new ball.

For those interested in the 2nd team game, Hants have declared on 40 and looks like Glamorgan having a swing to set up a chase. Not doing it very well - 29/6

Oh Dear. Last time I looked we were 50/0. What happened?
I followed the rather turgid morning's effort which ended at 57/0. Tuned in just now to find all out for 90 odd. How pathetic was that ? Presumably the conditions favoured the bowlers, but had they changed so much since lunch ?
I don't want to pick on any one batsman, but Donald should be replaced asap. He is out of his depth, and still living off the back of that double century at Colwyn Bay.

I watched most of the morning session and have to say that it was more by luck than judgement that they survived so long.
If Donald not scoring he should get some form in the 2's and bring in Meschede or Smith to support the 3 front line seamers. Won't score any fewer runs than Donald at the moment.
